Maxillaria is a large and diverse genus ranging from miniature to large plants.

Maxillaria sanguinea resembles a compact Max. tenuifolia with 3/4" oval bulbs on an ascending rhizome topped with thin 10" grassy green leaves, numerous short basil flower spikes carry a single 1" bright reddish brown bloom with an intense wine red lip tipped with white, fragrant and easy to grow.

As observed in Coastal NC.

BLOOMS: bright reddish brown bloom with a intensive red lip tipped with white. Fragrant. Free flowering.

FRUIT  AND  SEED: N/A, propagate by  division.

A year cycle in the life of ...... at Mooring Hitch

-Plants both  received in 3” plastic pot with S. moss. 
-Jan. 2016: (2) 3” clay pots. One in S. moss (doing well), the other in small orchiata with moss on top (bulbs are very wrinkle , may change to all S. moss).
-Feb. 2017:(1) clay 4”/O . Only one pot.
-Winter 2017: moved to 8” treefern pot, doing very well.
-March 10, 2018: first blooms open.(#1) treefern pot.
-Oct. 24, 2019: (#2) Mounted in Cork slab- cone shape.
