I had this plant indoors as houseplant for many years. When I laced it outdoors during summer, it will grow so large that was difficult to find a spot indoors for winter. I have two plants  of equal size. One been the off spring of the original.


They both now reside in the greenhouse year round. They love the high humidity and have develop thick aerial roots. Hope they turn into tall trees.

HEIGHT X SPREAD: 4 ft x 5 ft

PLANT TYPE: semi epiphytic/ tree
GROWTH RATE: fast

TEXTURE: bold

LIGHT: part shade

WATER: moderate/ high humidity

SOIL: well drain  rich soil. Develops aerial roots if high humidity is provided.
As observed in Coastal NC.

BLOOMS:   Mid spring bloomer. Usually one at center of plant. Flower is close during early morning and opens again during afternoon. To be fertilize it needs a specific beetle.

FRUIT  AND  SEED: N/A, propagate by  division.

KEY FEATURES: a thick trunk forms as the leaves dry out and new emerge, palm like tree.
Huge leaves with a wide spand.

Additional Information:  I do not re-call where the plant came from. Very popular as houselant.
