Orchid- Lc. Jungle Elf “Carmela”

Lc. Jungle Elf is a nice miniature, a hybrid of Laelia esalqueana x Cattleya aclandiae, registered by Fennell in 1986. The three and a half inch flower is produced on a plant about seven inches tall.


First time blooming (11/2013) plant has double buds in central stem from base of leaf.

PLANT TYPE: Orchid -Evergreen

GROWTH RATE: Moderate
TEXTURE: bold
LIGHT: filtered light, only.

WATER: let dry between water
high humidity 60-70 %

SOIL: small container with bark mix or fast drain media.
As observed in Coastal NC.

BLOOMS:Yellow with a touch of dark pink/red in the lip and few tiny spots in the petals. Scented, sweet perfume smell.

FRUIT  AND  SEED: N/A, propagate by  division.


KEY FEATURES:very long aerial roots for a compact short  multi stems with thick leaves.

Plant received bare-root with extensive long roots. Placed in 4” plastic pot with lg. Orchiata mix
-Mounted wood trellis D, (4X,3Y) at cross point (Dec. 31, 2012)
-3/25/13 removed from mount and placed in small plastic pot with Orchiata.
-Moved plant to 6” wooden basket with Orchiata. Summer 2013
-Two buds, first one open Nov. 9, 2013
-Januray 2014: (1)6” wooden basket.
-Jan. 2015: (1)6” wooden basket, (1) 3.5” aircone, both doing well.
-Jan. 2016: (1) 6” woodbasket, only plant found.
-Feb. 2017: (1) WB 6”
-Oct. 2022: Blooming.
