Grammatophyllum are the family that contain the largest orchid in the world.

scriptum var. “kiilani” is a hybrid that produces a miniature version of what is usually a very large orchid. Still a good 8” tall plant

HEIGHT X SPREAD: miniature cultivar
PLANT TYPE: Orchid -Evergreen
GROWTH RATE: Moderate
TEXTURE: bold
LIGHT: enjoys the morning and afternoon sun most, protect from the hot mid-day sun. A light green leaf with a hint of yellow indicates the max. amount of sun the plant can take, a dark green leaf indicates not enough sun.
WATER: moist but well  drained, 
high humidity 60-70 %
SOIL: Fine bark in mild summer climates, finer medium Orchid Mix in warmer summer areas.
As observed in Coastal NC.

BLOOMS: yellow with maroon markings on tall spikes.

FRUIT  AND  SEED: N/A, propagate by  division.


KEY FEATURES: Large elongated pseudobulbs with up right leaves. Fertilize with (25-9-9) from February  to July. Low nitrogen fertilizers (6-25-25) from August to January.
A year cycle in the life of ...... at Mooring Hitch

25 plugs, about 4” leaf length plants, received bare root.
1 (3” plastic pot/ bark mixture) mature plant in bloom.
-Mounted all plugs on 18” long cedar plank with moss backing, 12 plants per side. 
-Few tiny extra plants place in small pots with small Orchiata mix. 
-Potted plant left as is for now. ( Oct. 25, 2012)
-Nov. 15, 2012 tiny potted plants mounted in tree fern board.
Dec. 15, 2012. Received 1 plant bare-root with blooms. Placed in 2.5” sq. pot with sm orchiata mix. Mounted on A wood trellis (3X,5Y) left of cross.(Jan.1, 2013)
All mounted plants, in trellis and boards removed and potted with orchiata mix.
January 2014:(1) sm ceramic,(1)6” wood bkt, (1) 8” wood bkt. 
Total of (3)multi plants containers.
-Aug. 7, 2014: (1) mature plant purchased.
Jan. 2015: (1) sm oval ceramic, (1) 4” plastic, (2) 3.5” aircone. Can’t figure out what this plant likes, decreased water and increased light, will see. DEAD
