Oncidium sphacelatum is a species of orchid ranging from Mexico to Venezuela. A large plant that has upright to arching racemes that can be feet long with lots of flowers.

GROWTH RATE: Fast

TEXTURE: bold to medium
LIGHT: filtered light. High

WATER: moist but well  drained, 
high humidity 60-70 %

SOIL: Pot in Orchid bark mix
As observed in Coastal NC.

BLOOMS: yellow - brown. Winter season. Not fragrant.

FRUIT  AND  SEED: N/A, propagate by  division.


KEY FEATURES: Intermediate to warm. Because of its large pseudobulbs, it can store lots of water.
It tends to outgrow pots easily and just hang out of it.

Placed in ceramic planter with Orchid bark mix. July 25, 2012
Jan. 8, 2014: (1) 8” wooden basket, (1) 4” aircone pot.
Combined bothe plants into 8” wooden basket.
Jan. 2015: (1)8” wood basket, doing well.
-Jan. 2016: Second plant, potted in 4” aircone with Orchiata mix. 
Total of (2) plants in 2 containers. One 8”wood basket, one 4” aircone.
Feb. 2017:(#731-1) WB 8”, (#731-2) AC 5”.
Aug. 2020: (#731-3) mounted on CBT
