My second orchid of this gender.


Native to northeast India, Burma and Thailand. One of the plain leaved species, it has a solitary glossy greenish yellow flowers overlaid with reddish brown. In addition to the lacquered sheen, flowers are unusual in having petals with the upper halves more darkly pigmented than the lower halves.

PLANT TYPE: Orchid -Evergreen
GROWTH RATE: Moderate
TEXTURE: bold
LIGHT: filtered light, only.

WATER: moist but well  drained, 
high humidity 60-70 %
SOIL: Pot in Orchid mix using plastic or ceramic pots. Clay pots retains to much salt and may dry too fast
As observed in Coastal NC.

BLOOMS: Mid winter to early spring. Single yellow/reddish/brown on a erect tall stem.

FRUIT  AND  SEED: N/A, propagate by  division.

Two plants in 2” inch pots.
Keep in shade and moist at all times.
Re-potted May 18, 2012 in small fir bark and a bit of sphagnum moss mix.
Separated two small  seedlings and pot in 2.5” pot together.
Jan. 2014: (1) 4” plastic pot, (1) 2” plastic pot.
Jan. 2015: (1) 4” plastic pot, seedling dead.
