Genus comprises about 60 species in the Asia tropics from southern India to New Guinea and the Philippines. They are known as “Lady’s slippers” because of their pouch like lips. All Paphiopedilum have flowers of a similar plan. In order to be classed as a vini color the flower must be a clear purple-red without a trace of brown, and the tip of the pouch must be nearly black.
