The traditional holiday Poinsettia (Euphorbia pulcherrima), also known as Christmas Star or Mexican Flame Leaf flower, is part of the Spurge family and was brought to the United States by Joel Poinsett in 1825. There are now over 100 cultivar sold in abundance each year over the holidays. With proper care a plant can be kept for years. Keep above 50 F degrees.

HEIGHT X SPREAD: 10 inches x 15 inches 
PLANT TYPE: Shrub -Evergreen
GROWTH RATE: Moderate
TEXTURE: bold
LIGHT: full sun to part shade.
Place outdoor when danger of frost is past to re-new blooming cycle

WATER: like humidity and can be misted; and they need moist, not wet, soil. Water is the biggest culprit in killing poinsettia..

SOIL: Pot in loose porous soil. Good drainage
As observed in Coastal NC.

BLOOMS: bright red bracts that are ruffled along the middle rib and curve down to hug the green leaves. 

FRUIT  AND  SEED: cutting in early august will produce a flowering plant in December.

KEY FEATURES: smaller than the traditional with a smaller but more abundant bracts than other cultivars.

Plant purchased in 4” pot during full bloom. Re-pot in 10” clay pot, trim and placed outdoors after danger of frost past to generate growth for the next holiday season.
-Pinch during summer, no later than august 15 to assure December flowers.
