Phalaenopsis bellina, formerly known as violacea var. Borneo, is endemic to the island of Borneo and grows in Sarawak and Kalamantan. Plants are found in nature growing in a pendulous fashion, with 2-3 inch green flowers that have purple markings on the lower sepals. They are extremely fragrant and can bloom for several months, particularly in the spring and summer months. When these plants mature, they will develop large, wavy, shiny green leaves.

BLOOMS: Plant blooms in the summer to fall with two to three flowers. Flowers are fragrant and 5 cm wide. Flowers can re-bloom off the same stem year after year, so do not cut it if it is green.

FRUIT  AND  SEED: N/A, propagate by  division.


KEY FEATURES: If leaves turn yellow, they are receiving too much light.

Five small plants in  2” pots with bark mix. I made the mistake of mounting this tiny plant on wooden trellis with almost no moisture retention media around them. Now I know Phalaenopsis, specially tiny do not like that.
I removed plants from trellis in a attempt to rescue them from dying.
Placed in 4”clay pots with sphagnum moss and small bark. Some are slowly  recovering.
Jan. 2014: None survived my ignorance, have learn much, will try again.
