Pua Melia is what this plant is call in Hawaiian. Famous for making leis in Hawaii, Plumeria bears enticingly fragrant flowers.


Fall flowering the blooms keep changing tones as they open. Plant is un- attractive when dormant, just like a green stick.


Place outdoors when no longer danger of frost.

HEIGHT X SPREAD: 8-20 ft. outdoors

PLANT TYPE: Shrub - deciduous
New leaves emerge end of may in NC

GROWTH RATE: Fast

TEXTURE: smooth & glossy

LIGHT: full sun to  partial shade

WATER: average, do not over-water
SOIL: high organic, well drain soil such as cactus & palms.
As observed in Coastal NC.

BLOOMS:Red color, most fragrant at night in order to lure sphinx moths to pollinate them. Fall

FRUIT  AND  SEED: Plumeria species may be easily propagated from cuttings of leafless stem tips in spring. Allow cut surface to callous over before planting.

A year cycle in the life of ...... at Mooring Hitch
Cutting about 3/4 inch diameter x 11 inches long, green and looking very healthy. 
-Potted cutting about 4” deep into Metromix and gravel to provide good drainage. Water and place in full sun until the cutting grows a leaf.
Plant flower in late November and by end of year it was naked/dormant
- Re-pot in cactus soil and place outdoors in may. New leaf emerging end of may.
