Most people are introduced to orchids through phalaenopsis orchids.

There are about 60 true species of phalaenopsis; they are native to tropical Asian countries including the Philippines, Borneo, Java and elsewhere. These plants have been extensively hybridized, and there are thousands of phalaenopsis hybrids.


This cultivar has Orange/yellow flowers with a dot pattern and it is tiny.

PLANT TYPE: Orchid -Evergreen
GROWTH RATE: Moderate
TEXTURE: bold
LIGHT: filtered light, only.

WATER: moist well, drained, 
high humidity 60-70 %

SOIL: Pot in coarse chunks of fir or 
redwood bark and/or hardwood charcoal
As observed in Coastal NC.

BLOOMS: Five petals of yellow background and orange speck pattern with a pink throat on a long stem, opening along the stem. Late winter/early spring. Fragrant !

FRUIT  AND  SEED: N/A, propagate by  division.


KEY FEATURES: Small plant with thick dark green leaves that do not tolerate any direct sun light.

    Potted  separately in 2 pots.
-Place in Glasshouse Feb. 23, 2011. Placed one of them in a area with some direct sun and after one day, leaf burned. 
-Does NOT tolerate any direct sun.
-Mounted in trellis A & Trellis D 
-Orchid trellis A: plant flowered again 2/2012, however excess water rot the plant. Removed excess moss, relocate to prevent drip from water system. Plant appears death however, some roots look alive. Perhaps the plant will grow back?
My ignorance kill these plants I know better now to develop good root system on Phalea. before attempting to mount on trellis and then KEEP MOIST.
