Begonia aconitifolia & coccinea ....

Begonia-Angelwing “My Angel”

                                          ID#574

Additional Information: Plant exchange: Oriental Women’s Club/Garden Club

This plant will only live outdoors during the summers in Easter NC

I picked this plant from a Plant Exchange because my husband Bob likes Begonias. I kept it in a pot for the first year and did not grow much.

Second year I  moved it to a flower bed during summer and it thrived.

The cultivar name is not certain.

Now I keep a cutting of it at the end of season to winter in the Glasshouse.

HEIGHT X SPREAD: 24 - 36 inches

PLANT TYPE: Evergreen in hot climate

GROWTH RATE: Moderate

TEXTURE: fine - medium

LIGHT: part shade

WATER: moist

SOIL: high Organic
As observed in Coastal NC.

BLOOMS: flat circle shape blooms in light pink color grow in bunches during late summer. The color makes a good contrast with the dark green /red colored leaves.

KEY FEATURES: Pseudo heart shape, serrated leaves are green with sliver specks all over on the top and deep red color underneath.
A year cycle in the life of ...... at Mooring Hitch

Plant is resilient. I keep it in the greenhouse/ Glasshouse during winter, usually just a branch cutting from larger plant growing in Bed #13 during the summer. The plant grows well in part shade and well moist soil which Bed #13 provides. It flowers in late summer. I will try to keep it year around in the new Glasshouse and see if it tolerates the high heat of summer there.

Cuttings root easily but do not grow much during the cold months.
