Known as Moses in a Basket, or Oyster Plant. Named after the small white flowers inside a "cradle" or "boat" this striking tricolor plant is a member of the "Wandering Jew" family, it can be grown under a wide range of light conditions as well as soil and air moisture.


Also know by the synon.

Tradescantia bermudensis variegata

HEIGHT X SPREAD: 2 ft x 2ft

PLANT TYPE: tropical, minimum temperature indoors 55F degrees.

GROWTH RATE: Fast

TEXTURE: Medium, smooth and cool appearance

LIGHT: Full to partial sun

WATER: moist

SOIL: high Organic
As observed in Coastal NC.

BLOOMS:White or near white, sterile non seeding.

FRUIT  AND  SEED: the best and only way for propagation of the wandering Jew plant is by division of its rhizomes or offsets.
It can also be propagated from herbaceous stem cuttings too that root easily.

KEY FEATURES: grown for it’s striking foliage color.

   Obtained this plant in Oct. 2010. It has so far grown fast not picky. Yet to find out if it will tolerate the high temperatures and full sun of the Glasshouse during summer time.
Moved to a 10” clay pot Nov. 2010
-Center of plant has reverted to Non-variegated type.
-Separated a portion to make a second planter. Leaves like to stay dry.
