Intriguing; continuously changing leaf colors.


Leaf Color: Blue/Green Margined - Yellow.  Coarse and corrugated leaves.


Leaf size: medium, 6” x 4.5 “


Plant size: Large, mound shape


Three specimens as mark:

HEIGHT X SPREAD: 18” x 28 “ (large)

PLANT TYPE: deciduous

GROWTH RATE: Medium

TEXTURE: fine
LIGHT: light/partial shade to full shade, needs 4- 6 hrs. of direct sun to bring out center color

WATER: average

SOIL: average fertile.
As observed in Coastal NC.
BLOOMS: Medium, Pale lavender, bell-shaped flowers appear on 40" stems in mid-summer.
No fragrance.

FRUIT  AND  SEED: N/A

KEY FEATURES: Needs at least 2 hours of sun to bring out the fabulous gold center! In spring, leaves have blue-green margins and chartreuse centers. By summer, the margins turn dark green and the centers become bright gold. Attracts both hummingbirds and songbirds.
A year cycle in the life of ...... at Mooring Hitch

    I split the original plant into three. Late September we stone frame bed #6, the three specimens of this plant are in the inner front part of the bed. Images of the plant will have to wait until spring/summer when they emerge.
One out of 3 plants survive the flood 2011. Watch for excess dryness and sun in summer, lost the large chinaberry tree that shaded the area.
