Euphorbia flanaganii

Medusa Plant

   ID#524

Additional Information: Purchased at “The Plant Farm” New Bern, NC.

Euphorbia flanaganii is an interesting plant, with 'arms' arising out of a basal area.

Branches feature very small green leaves.

I’m hoping to find a interesting pot, perhaps a woman’s head to place this plant in.

HEIGHT X SPREAD: 6 “ x 12”

PLANT TYPE: Succulent - cactus. Evergreen

GROWTH RATE: Moderate

TEXTURE: fine medium

LIGHT: bright light

WATER: allow to dry between waterings. More water during spring/summer
SOIL: Porous soil with adequate drainage.
As observed in Coastal NC.

BLOOMS: yellow flowers at the end of branches mainly at center of crown.

FRUIT AND SEED: propagate by cuttings of flange rooted in moist fine gravel then transplant to porous media/soil

KEY FEATURES: interesting extended “arms” with very small leaves make a attractive plant to hang. New crowns emerge from basal point.
A year cycle in the life of ...... at Mooring Hitch

Requires so far little care. During summer protect from strong sun. Fertilize at least 1x month.
Cutting taken from one flange cut at the crown base. 2” length dip in root hormone and place in coarse moist sand with glass cover for several weeks until it shows roots. Transplant rooted piece into porous soil mixture. So far about 4 cuttings show to be alive with roots but no growth yet.
Collected the dry flowers and under magnification I can seed (?) very tiny round in sets of two attached by one stem at right angle. Potted few, awaiting results.
Seeds did not grow but cutting, yes, many in progress.
July 2018: Plant suffered from over water, repotted in pumice stone and shortly died.
