Arborvitae “Berkman’s Gold”

                                          ID#402

Spring 2007, somewhere in the Delmarva peninsula we stopped at a Nursery call “Bizon”. There we picked two evergreen trees to take home:

  1. -Berkman’s Gold

  2. - False Cypress “Temple Hof”.

The arborvitae, a small inexpensive plant has done well.

The younger arbovitae in bed #2,  I found  it growing as a “volunteer” among the border junipers in the same bed. Unsure of the cultivar, it looks so far identical to the first one.

A year cycle in the life of ...... at Mooring Hitch
Spring 2007, about 2 ft. tall it stands now about 4-5 ft. tall and about 3 ft. width. It endures hot summers in almost full sun and a dry location . It bronzes a little in the outer branches during the summer months but never shows dry needles.

Spring 2009, I transplanted the tiny tree only about 6 inches tall where it could get room to grow: Full sun and a hillside stop, the tree has done well. It shows more bronze color during the winter than the larger specimen, but otherwise the similarity is remarkable.

Emerging time, Fertilization, Pruning, Thinning, Seed Collecting, Cutting, Roots, Division,.......
