Orchid Den. Suzukii (Species)

                                    ID#1025

A species described as coming from Viet Nam. This species has never been formally found in the wild so it is most likely a hybrid. Similar to cruentum but with larger flowers. This is one of the nigro-hirsute (black haired canes)Dendrobiums and is tolerant of a wide range of temperatures. In Summer it can be fertilized once per 3-4 weeks if planted in moss. If in bark, feed every 2nd time you water. Let the roots dry between water in winter and provide more even moisture during the spring and summer months.

A year cycle in the life of ...... at Mooring Hitch
If, in the spring, the plants produce keikis (baby plants) on the stem instead of flowers, the plant is telling you that something in its environment is not correct. This may be too much water during resting; the plants need a little watering during this time but they must dry completely for two or three days between waterings. It may also be a temperature problem…these dendrobiums want mild to warm days in winter, but much cooler nights. And they need higher light in the winter, too.
Plant purchased in 3” plastic pot with bark.
Jan. 2016: doing well.
Two blooms Jan. 2017
Feb. 2017:(1) clay 4”R, in bloom with two flowers.
Plant makes flowers but, they either dry out or show signs of to much water.
Feb. 2019: Moved plant to 4” WB and orchiata. Two blooms forming. One small bulb mounted at “Figure 8/ bottom circle- outer branch.”
Jan. 2023: Entire plant/divisions DEAD.
