Ingredients

Preparation

Pie Crust for 9" pie:  see note (1)

1/3  cup   shortening or lard

1  cup  all-purpose flour

1/2  teaspoon  salt

2  to 3 Tbs.  cold water

     

FILLING:

2  whole  eggs

1/2  cup  all purpose flour

1/2  cup  sugar

1/2  cup  firmly packed brown sugar

8  ounces   butter (1 cup = 2 sticks),  melted and cooled

6  ounces  semi-sweet chocolate chips (1 cup)

1  cup  chopped pecans or walnut

whipping cream or ice cream,  optional,  to serve with

Preheat oven to 350 F degrees.

1. To prepare pastry you may use mixer. Cut shortening into flour then add water to form a paste.

2. Roll  dough on floured surface. Cover a 9" pie plate with a fluted edge. Set aside.

3. In large bowl, beat eggs until foamy. Add flour, sugar and brown sugar; beat until well blended. Blend in butter. Stir in semi-sweet chocolate chips and nuts.

4. Pour into pastry-lined pie pan.

5. Bake in preheated oven  until set, about 1 hr. Pie is done when no longer feels liquid at the center if gently touched.  Pie looks greasy when hot but it will absorb the butter as it cools down.

 

Cool completely before serving.

NOTE: 1) Filling will make 4 full individual size pies.
