Crust for Pies

Classic Flaky Crisco

Ingredients

Preparation

SINGLE 9" pie

1 1/3  cups  sifted all-purpose flour

1/2  teaspoon  salt

1/2  cup  Crisco shortening

3  tablespoons   cold water

1. Sift flour before measuring; spoon lightly into measuring cup and level without shaking or packing down.

2. Combine flour and salt in a mixing bowl. With pastry blender or two knifes, cut in shortening until uniform; mixture should be fairly coarse.

3. Sprinkle with water, a Tbs. at a time; toss with a fork. Work dough into a firm ball with your hands.

 

SINGLE 9" Pie

 - Without filling:  Prick bottom and sides thoroughly with a fork. Place ceramic beads or raw bean/ rice wrapped in aluminum foil as weights to prevent shrinkage. Bake for 10 - 15 minutes at 425 F degrees.

 

 - With filling:  Bake according to time and temperature recommended for filling used.

NOTE: Kitchen aid mixer with flat blade works well instead of hand method.
