Ingredients
Preparation
Baker's Clay:
4 cups flour
1 cup salt
1 1/2 cups water
Baker's Clay: inedible decorations resemble baked treats, last years.
1. Combine flour and salt. Gradually add water until mixture is a putty-like consistency. Knead dough for five minutes to thoroughly blend ingredients.
2. Roll out to 1/4" thickness on floured surface; cut with cookie cutters. If cutters stick to dough, dip in flour.
3. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 325F degrees until light brown (about 1/2 hour), or air dry on cooling rack for 48 hours.
4. Pierce with a drinking straw or skewer before baking if you plan to hang decorations.
China White: makes smooth, pure white decorations like unglazed china
1. In a saucepan, combine cornstarch and soda. Gradually add water until mixture is smooth. Heat, stirring constantly, until mixture reaches a moist, mashed potato consistency.
2. Turn onto a plate; cover with a damp towel. Knead dough when cool enough to handle.
3. Roll to 1/4" thickness, cut with cutters. Dip cutter in cornstarch and shake before cutting.
4. Allow to dry several days at room temperature on a cooling rack for air circulation. Pierce with a drinking straw or skewer before drying if you plan to hang decorations.
