Tips: Good activity for a gathering of few kids. Good to eat too.

1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup margarine or butter, softened
3 ounces cream cheese, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond, lemon or run extract
1 egg, separated
2 cups all-purpose flour or unbleached flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon water
assorted food coloring, to paint
1. Heat oven to 350 F degrees. In large bowl, combine sugar, margarine or butter and cream cheese; beat well. Add vanilla, almond extract and 1 egg white; blend well. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off. Add flour and slat; mix well. Divide dough in half.
2. On ungreased cookies sheet, press half the dough into a 10x8-inch rectangle. You may use a rolling pin to get even.
3. In small bowl, combine reserved egg yolk and 1/2 teaspoon water. Divide into several small custard cups or bowls. Add food coloring to each to make several assorted colors. Using paint brushes, paint design on dough rectangle with egg paints.
4. Bake at 350 F degrees for 9 to 15 minutes or until edges are set. Immediately cut rectangle with sharp knife into several pieces varying shapes and sizes. Cool 5 minutes; remove from cookie sheet.
5. Repeat with remaining half of dough.
