2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
8 ounces butter ( 2 sticks), softened
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 whole eggs
12 ounces Nestlé semi-sweet chocolate chips (2 cups)
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
1. Preheat oven at 375 F degrees. Non-air layer type baking sheet preferred for this recipe, leave baking stone on shelf below.
2. In small bowl combine flour, baking soda and salt; set aside.
3. In large mixer bowl, beat butter, sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract until creamy. Beat in eggs. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts.
4. Drop by rounded measuring tablespoons onto ungreased cookie sheet.
5. Bake 9-11 minutes until edges are golden brown. Cool for few minutes before removing from sheet.
NOTES : 1) Giant Toll house cookies: Drop dough by 1/4 cupfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet. Press lightly into 3" circles. Bake at 375 F degrees for 10-12 minutes until edges are golden brown. Makes 20 - 4" cookies
2) Pan cookies: Spread dough in greased 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1 inch baking pan. Bake at 375 F degrees for 20-25 minutes. Cool completely. Cut into 35 - 2 inch squares.
