Ingredients

1  package  German Chocolate Cake Mix

     

Filling and Frosting:

1 cup  evaporated milk

1 cup  sugar

3  egg yolks

1/4  pound   butter or margarine (1 stick)

1  teaspoon  vanilla extract

1 1/3  cups  flaked coconut

1  cup   chopped pecans

1. Bake cake as per package directions using  (2) 8-inch  or (2) 9-inch layer pans. Cool.

 

2. Combine milk, sugar, egg yolks, butter and vanilla in saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens, about 12 minutes. Remove from heat. Add coconut and pecans. Beat until cool and spreading consistency. Mixture should be quite solid  when mixed with coconut and pecans. Yields about 2 2/3 cups.

 

3. Fill and frost in all sides layer cakes using all frosting. Keep room temperature.
