Makes 12 servings.

Biscuits - Tillie’s Recipe
Ingredients

3 cups self rising flour (see note 1 and 2)
3 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons powdered sugar
1/2 cup solid vegetable shortening, or butter
1 1/4 cups fresh buttermilk
butter to brush top
Preheat oven to 450 F degrees.
1. Mix dry ingredients, cut in shortening.
2. Stir in buttermilk.
3. Knead a few times.
4. Roll out on floured board, folding the dough one or two times to create layers.
5. Cut with circle cutter about 3-inches in diameter. Bake in 450 F degree oven for about 12 minutes or until tops are golden.
6. Brush with butter and serve hot out of the oven.
Handy Mix: Add all ingredients except buttermilk. Keep in seal container until needed. If using butter, refrigerate mix until use.
1 1/4 cup of mix + 1/2 cup fresh buttermilk yields 3 Large Biscuits.
NOTES :
1) Self rising flour can be replace with: 1 cup sifted flour + 1 1/4 teaspoon baking powder and a pinch of salt.
2) For a even tender biscuit replace 1 cup of Flour with White Spelt flour.
