Seeds from a store bougth Papaya (possible cultivars: Maradol, Sunrise or Caribbean Red) planted in Profesional soil mix.

All (8) seeds sproutted within 2 weeks.


Circa papaya, native to central and Sout america is a large tree-like plant with a single stem that can reach 5 to 10 meters with spirally leaves confined to the top of the trunk. Branching only if lopped.

Plants usually flower within 6 months and bare fruit mature by 12 months.

Short lived, production slows down after 4 years of continues fruit bearing.

HEIGHT X SPREAD: medium PLANT TYPE: Perennial Herb with hollow trunk GROWTH RATE: Moderate TEXTURE: bold LIGHT: filtered light, medium. Most light tolerant of the species WATER: well drain, let dry a bit before water. Standing water will kill plant within 24 hrs. SOIL: Pot in Orchiata mix with a slight angle for drainage of the crown.
As observed in Coastal NC. BLOOMS: Flowers are similar to Plumeria but smaller and wax like. FRUIT AND SEED: Plants produce one of tree different types of seeds: male, female or hermaphrodites (self-pollinator). Seeds type from one plant may change if plant stresses. Remove glossy wet cover from seed before planting. KEY FEATURES: flowers remain for 2-3 months and repeat frequently.
A year cycle in the life of ...... at Mooring Hitch Planted seeds in individual 1.5” cells with profesional soil mix. All (8) seeds sproutted. After second set of leaves transplanted to 4” pots, and eventually into 1 gallon pots. At 4 months from planting, reaching about 1.5 feet tall. NOTE: plants are incredibly fast on tracking the sun. Pots tipped over one night and within 3 hrs. of sun plants where bent 90 degrees to face the sun. They recover without residual effect within the next day.
