Genus comprises about 60 species in the Asia tropics from southern India to New Guinea and the Philippines. They are known as “Lady’s slippers” because of their pouch like lips.  All Paphiopedilum have flowers of a similar plan. Lacking pseudobulbs, they prefer a moisture-retaining epiphytic compost and medium light levels.

As observed in Coastal NC. BLOOMS: Deep maroon pouch, speckeled petals and white hood with red and green vein markings. Petals have a out/ripple flare. FRUIT AND SEED: N/A, propagate by division. KEY FEATURES: Hybrid. mottled leaves. Leaves are large and rounded.
A year cycle in the life of ...... at Mooring Hitch Plant purchased in 4” inch square pot with Orchiata mix. Keep in shade and moist at all times. Use weak strength fertilizer, less than other orchid varieties. Placed water plate during summer heat , all L.slippers like it. -Jan. 2016: doing well. Feb. 2017:(1) Pk. sq. 4”. In bloom April 2017
