Clivia miniata ‘Belgian Hybrid Yellow’

Bush Lily “Belgian Hybrid Yellow”

                                      ID#933

Clivia plants are native to South Africa.

Yellow Clivias  are rare in the wild. First one to reach Europe in 1897. Pups of such plant where only gifted among family & friends. In 1981 ninety young plants were donated , 1/2 to Longwood Gardens and 1/2 to White Flower Farm to market. Plants were offer at $1000 and quickly taken.

Thanks to  Ernest de Coster, a Belgian nurserman began breeding them in the 1950’s  I did not have to pay as much. Still pricy for particlar hybrids, they are very accesible to the mass market.
