Vandas are native to Southeast Asia. Most varieties prefer bright light and warmth as well as a reasonable degree of humidity. These plants are known for their large flower size and vibrant colors.

Vandas grow on treetops on ridges along rivers and prefer bright light.


No  name tag. Will try to identify once it blooms.

PLANT TYPE: Orchid -Evergreen
GROWTH RATE: Moderate
TEXTURE: bold
LIGHT: high light, indirect.

WATER: keep fairly moist,
high humidity 

SOIL: open baskets. May use some loos bark to mantain humidity in summer months.
As observed in Coastal NC.
BLOOMS:  Lavander with lighter specs.

FRUIT  AND  SEED: N/A

KEY FEATURES: Keep roots moist and fertilize frequently during growing season.
A year cycle in the life of ...... at Mooring Hitch

Plant arrived from Hawaii in 3” plastic basket with some orchiata mix.
Jan. 2016: (1) 4” woodbasket. Water daily unless cloudy/rainy
Feb. 2017: (1)WB 4”
Nov. 2020: DEAD, I do not know how to properly care for vandas. Off my list for now.
