Vascostylis: Vanda x Ascocentrum x Rhynchostylis

Abbreviated =Vasco.


Vandas are large plants that require full sun. Ascocentrum are smaller and need a little less sun.

Hybrids usually present a more durable plant, a great choice for beginner orchid growers.

PLANT TYPE: Orchid -Evergreen
GROWTH RATE: Moderate
TEXTURE: bold
LIGHT: medium light, indirect.

WATER: keep fairly moist,
high humidity 

SOIL: open baskets. May use some loos bark to mantain humidity in summer months.
As observed in Coastal NC.
BLOOMS:  Red wine, slight fragrance

FRUIT  AND  SEED: N/A

KEY FEATURES:  Very heavy substance abd shiny texture.
Keep roots moist and fertilize frequently during growing season.
Because of the Rhynchostylis component, this plant may tolerate less light than a typical vanda plant.

Plant arrived from Hawaii in 3” plastic basket with some orchiata mix.( 2 yrs. to blooming size).
Jan. 2016: (1) 4” woodbasket. Water daily unless cloudy/rainy
