Vandas are native to Southeast Asia. Most varieties prefer bright light and warmth as well as a reasonable degree of humidity. These plants are known for their large flower size and vibrant colors.

PLANT TYPE: Orchid -Evergreen
GROWTH RATE: Moderate
TEXTURE: bold
LIGHT: moderate bright light, indirect.

WATER: keep fairly moist,
high humidity 

SOIL: open baskets. May use some loos bark to mantain humidity in summer months.
As observed in Coastal NC.
BLOOMS:  Large Deep rose flowers flushed & marked dark red with a darker wine-black lip.
Blooms 2x/year.

FRUIT  AND  SEED: N/A

KEY FEATURES: Keep roots moist and fertilize frequently during growing season.

Plant arrived from Hawaii in 3” plastic basket with some orchiata mix.
Jan. 2016: (1) 4” woodbasket. Water daily unless cloudy/rainy
Feb. 2017: (1) WB 4”
July 2019: Plant dead due to not drying proberly between water and extreme hot weather (102F degrees).
