Dendrobium phalaenopsis is another botanical name given to this Orchid.

Purchased at a discount table with spike in full bloom, 13 blooms. The plant has thick short leaves and appears to be of a Dwarf  compact variety.


Tag: None- no name. Identify as bigibbum, specific cultivar unknow, most likely a compact hybrid.


Color: White/ fuschia

WATER: moist, well drained.

SOIL: Pot in Orchiata mix in small pot, like to be bound but well drain.
As observed in Coastal NC.

BLOOMS:   White with a fuschia center. Spike emerges from the top of the cane, and often others follow from lower leaves. Old as well as new cane flower ofter with several spikes at a time lasting months.

FRUIT  AND  SEED: N/A, propagate by  division.

KEY FEATURES: flowers remain for 2-3 months and repeat frequently. Flowers in old and new canes. Do not cut/remove canes. Flowers about 11 months out of the year.
A year cycle in the life of ...... at Mooring Hitch

Purchased in 4” round & tall” plastic pot with soil like medium at disconted price. In Bloom with one spike/12 blooms, and more spikes emerging.
Jan. 2015 re-potted in 4” regular clay pot with small orchiata mix. This plant has been in full bloom since may 2014 non stop, 3 spikes and one new coming up. Amazing plant.
Flowers after winter in glasshouse have more fuschia tones and a hint of green hue on lateral sepals.(3/2015)
Jan. 2016: (1) 4” Regular clay pot. In bloom now. Plant has blooms about 11 months of the year.
Feb. 2017: (1) AC 3.5”, continues to bloom all the time. Roots look deteriorating, moved to transluscent container to improve roots.
Mounted on WT April 2017/ did not do well. 
Dead/ removed 2022, WT not good substrate.
