HEIGHT X SPREAD: medium PLANT TYPE: Orchid -Evergreen GROWTH RATE: Moderate TEXTURE: bold LIGHT: filtered light, medium. Most light tolerant of the species. Protect more during summer. WATER: moist, well drained. high humidity 60-70 % SOIL: Pot in Orchiata mix .
As observed in Coastal NC. BLOOMS: pink and maroon spot on a creamy yellow background. Five pointy petals/septals with a elaborate curly lip. FRUIT AND SEED: N/A, propagate by division. KEY FEATURES: oval- elongated pseudobulbs.
A year cycle in the life of ...... at Mooring Hitch Purchased in 4” square plastic pot with bark/moss at discounted price. Kept as obtained. Water once per year or when almost dry. Pseudobulbs are plump and look very healthy. August 2016: spike not fully open, some blooms dried out. Plant may need re-potting. Will wait until spike is done. Oct. 2016 re-potted in 4” aircone with medium orchiata mix, flower stem was again loosing flowers. Nov. 2016 first fully open bloom, beautiful Feb. 2017: (1) AC 4” Aug. 2020: this flower is a reliable bloomer about twicw a yr., however the flowers coloring on the bloons changes significantly depending on the season. Summer blooms are bleached out and almost white, while winter ones have brigh pink tones. May 2021: Plant lost some pseudobulbs. removed from pot into CCT mount, 2d. sect. from bottom/ left side. No pot left, just mounted. March 2022: Plant Dead.
