This Orchid is know as “The Boat orchid” because the shape of it’s blooms.

Plant is about 2 ft. tall, a “mature cymbidium” , not a big plant compared to other Cym.

Standard cymbidium can be as big as 4 ft tall and wide, space hogs.


Flowers will be solid Yellow.

HEIGHT X SPREAD: tall  & wide in time.

PLANT TYPE: Orchid -Evergreen Hybrid
GROWTH RATE: fast
TEXTURE: fine
LIGHT: filtered light, high. Intermediate to warm temperature. Standards like cool temp.
WATER: moist well, drained, do not allow to dry completely.
high humidity 60-70 %
SOIL: best potted in moist retention media, well drain.A mixture of bark, spongerock, moss and peat. and or coconut husk.
As observed in Coastal NC.

BLOOMS:  Solid yellow.

FRUIT  AND  SEED: N/A, propagate by  division.

KEY FEATURES: A fast grower, semi terrestrial that requires plenty of water and good water retention media. Heavy feeder during growing season.
A year cycle in the life of ...... at Mooring Hitch

-Plant came bareroot. Potted in 6” regular clay pot with a mixture of:
fir bark, spongerock, sphagnum moss & “Black gold” orchid mix. All moist but not wet when planting. Water gently after packed not tight. 
-Feb. 2017:(1) clay 6” R. Plant doing well, new growth during winter.
-Feb. 23, 2017: inspected roots, medium too wet. Downsized to a 5” shallow plastic pot and added more perlite to mix.
-March 24, 2018: Moved to (1) 5” Tall/ red/ plastic pot. Doing well,roots where exiting previous pot.
-July 2020: First flower spike
August 2022: Plant became severely infested with Boisduval scale, after treatment did not improved,/ Discarded.
