Genus comprises about 60 species in the Asia tropics from southern India to New Guinea and the Philippines. They are known as “Lady’s slippers” because of their pouch like lips.  All Paphiopedilum have flowers of a similar plan. Lacking pseudobulbs, they prefer a moisture-retaining epiphytic compost and medium light levels.

TEXTURE: fine
LIGHT: filtered light, low to medium. Intermediate to warm temperature.

WATER: moist well, drained, do not allow to dry completely.
high humidity 60-70 %
SOIL: best potted in small fir bark
Re-pot once per year.
As observed in Coastal NC.

BLOOMS: Yellow pouch and petalums with green flush and marron long stripe along center of petals. 

FRUIT  AND  SEED: N/A, propagate by  division.

KEY FEATURES: Hybrid. Small with tall spike ,multile flowers on spike.
Solid green leaves.
A year cycle in the life of ...... at Mooring Hitch

Plant purchased in 4” inch square pot with bark.
Keep in shade and moist at all times. Use weak strength fertilizer, less than other orchid varieties.
-Plant obtained with one flower left on spike and second flower already spent.
-January 2014: (1) 4” plastic pot.
-August 3, 2014 New flower open. Same spike, second flower open Sept 16, and a 3d. flower is in bud.
-2015: plant bloomed twice this year.
-Jan. 2016: doing well.
-Feb. 2017:(1) Plastic sq. 4”
Feb. 16, 2019: Repotted, multilpe plants found. (#1) 3.5”AC-larger plants, (#2)3” Plastic/tall/translucent - 3 medium plants, (#3) 2”AC-2 small plants.
Total of 3 containers.
-April 2020: all plants re-united in (#1) 4” AC pot.
Total of 1 container.
