Native to Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama. Grows in lowland wet forests in moderate to full sun. The delicate one-inch pink flowers are produced in good numbers off and on throughout the year.

Closely related to Epidendrums. It seems to do its very best mounted, where the roots can dry rapidly after watering.

HEIGHT X SPREAD: tall and narrow PLANT TYPE: Orchid -Evergreen GROWTH RATE: Moderate TEXTURE: fine LIGHT: filtered light, medium. WATER: High humidity. Temperatures intermediate to warm. 3-5 times per week SOIL: best mounted. roots like to dry fast.
As observed in Coastal NC. BLOOMS: Clusters of delicate lavender-pink flowers grace this attractive, cane-growing orchid on/off during the year, but mainly in spring. Not sure I have two plants in one pot or flower color fades , some are almost white. FRUIT AND SEED: propagates quickly from keikis along the stem. Leaves off shots untouched for a full plant effect. KEY FEATURES: The fine reed-like stems grow to about 18” tall and the inflorescence is formed at the terminal. They are usually many flowered, and carry 1.5”, mauve to lilac flowers.
A year cycle in the life of ...... at Mooring Hitch Plant arrive in a 2.5” claypot, in small bark mix with plenty of flowers and aerial roots. Mounted plant with clay pot in cedar board hoping aerial roots will attach to board, that did not happen. Plant deteriorated and eventually died, perhaps for lack of water during excess summer heat inside the glasshouse. Will like to try this plant again. New plant July 9, 2015 in 2.5” clay pot. Jan. 2016: (1) 2.5” clay pot hanging, doing well. Let dry before watering pot, spray air roots is O.K.
