Epidendrums make up a diverse genus of over 800 species  in the new world tropics from North Carolina to Bolivia.

Creeping, equitant Epidendrum. Extremely quick grower. A nice miniature that likes it hot and moist. Clambering miniature quickly grows into beautiful specimens.

  1. (A)E. porpax :Magenta flowers 1/2” size

  2. (B)E. porpax f. ‘Green Mountain’:

      Green flowers 1/2” size

Both types bloom in winter.

PLANT TYPE: Orchid -Evergreen
GROWTH RATE: Moderate
TEXTURE: bold
LIGHT: Grow intermediate, moderately bright light.

WATER: moist but well  drained, 
high humidity 60-70 %

SOIL: suited for tree fern mount or wooden basket.
As observed in Coastal NC.

BLOOMS: tiny bloom, about 1/2” total. (A)Magenta with rose/cream small petals and a green/yellow center. (B) blooms are green.

FRUIT  AND  SEED: N/A, propagate by  division.


KEY FEATURES: fine roots, multiple stems. Miniature.
A year cycle in the life of ...... at Mooring Hitch

Plant received mounted in 3”x 6” tree fern piece & hook. Plant has one flower.
-Plant has been flowering freely since arrival. Nov. 25, 2012 - 3 blooms. Placed at Wooden trellis A.
-January 2014: (1) fern tree board mount. Soak board in water once per week.
Hanging close to humidifier in Metal Tower B. Leaves have a red tint with afternoon sun exposure, will find a spot with more shade. Plant is in bloom and looks healthy
Second plant received unmounted 11/20/14
-Jan. 2015: (1) large tree fern board with (2 A) plants, front and back. Both now in bloom.
-Jan. 2016: (1) tree fern board all (3 A) plants mounted blooming.
-Feb. 2017: (1/3) TF board 6”x24”. Doing well, all 3 plants flower every december for about 2-3 months.
-Oct. 2018: (1 B) added to Treefern board. Total of 4 plants in one board.
-July 2021: original TF board hanger broke/ board deteriorated, too fragile.
Removed all plants, remounted in TF totem about 3ft L x 2”Sq.
Added 6 more purchased leads/cutting (3)A type, (3)B type. at lower middle section. Plan to add more as they become available from my own or purchase.
