Genus comprises about 60 species in the Asia tropics from southern India to New Guinea and the Philippines. They are known as “Lady’s slippers” because of their pouch like lips.  All Paphiopedilum have flowers of a similar plan. Lacking pseudobulbs, they prefer a moisture-retaining epiphytic compost and medium light levels.

As observed in Coastal NC. BLOOMS:Deep Burgundy dorsal septal is white with maroon lines. The pouch/lip is very dark maroon and lateral septals are lighter maroon with dark spots towards the center. FRUIT AND SEED: N/A, propagate by division. KEY FEATURES: Hybrid, a cross between: Mottled leaves.
