Mexico, El Salvador. Cattleya aurantiaca's natural habitat consists of low mountain and tropical rain forests between 300 and 1600 meters. Temperatures range from extremely hot to extremely cold. Plants are found growing on exposed rock outcroppings and on tree branches.

Smallest flowers of all Cattleya species, common name “Orange Cattleya”.

WATER: moist well, drained. Do let plant dry out in between waterings (moist but not wet).

BLOOMS:  Two to eleven orange small flowers top each stem. Some cultivars have flowers that do not open fully. Some flowers self-pollinate prior to opening. Late winter- spring.
FRUIT  AND  SEED: N/A, propagate by  division.

KEY FEATURES: The cylindrical pseudobulbs of Cattleya aurantiaca are topped with two leaves. This species grows to a height of 18-24 inches tall and is a vigorous grower. With time it may form a large specimen plant.
A year cycle in the life of ...... at Mooring Hitch

Plants (5) received in 2” plastic pots with bark mix.Mounted on wood trellis B without medium but with some spanish moss drape around them to keep moisture. Young plants but in spite of it one plant produce a flower  first spring.

-Jan. 2014: Only (2 seedling remain) individually in 2”  plastic pots. Mounting was to drastic for such a small seedlings. 
-Jan. 2015:(1) 4” clay pot, (1) 4” wooden basket
-Sept.2015: Tinny plant in clay pot, dead. Only (1) remains.???
-Jan. 2016: found (1)(2” plastic pot) & (1) (4” wood basket). Total of (2) plants.
Feb. 2017: Only one plant left. (1) WB4”
