Echinopsis hybrid “Mellow Yellow”

Additional Information: Purchase at: The Plant Farm, New Bern, NC.

 

I purchased this cactus in a very sad stage. It had almost no green.

After 1 1/2 yrs. the plant has flourish, divide and bloom. I know now it is a Echinopsis, and most likely the hybrid here indicated.

HEIGHT X SPREAD:  clustering 3”

PLANT TYPE:  Evergreen

GROWTH RATE: relatively fast 

TEXTURE: coarse/ thorny

LIGHT: Full sun

WATER: Dry, well drain, wet soil only not plant.

SOIL: 1/2 compost: 1/2 gravel-rock
As observed in Coastal NC.

BLOOMS: Diurnal  long tubed 3" wide light yellow flower with some bronze/maroon on back petals. with strong sweet scent.Prolific bloomer

FRUIT  AND  SEED: N/A, propagate by removing tiny barrel from the side and pot in well drain media.

KEY FEATURES: clustering dark green stem with very short spines. Tiny clusters appear on the sides and slowly develop a green top. Showy flowers but short lived. Pups frequently
A year cycle in the life of ...... at Mooring Hitch

    Potted in 1/2 compost: 1/2 gravel  and fertilize with liquid 20-20-20.
It has responded well, greening up and developing side barrels. 
One tiny side barrel removed is growing well.
-Fertilize 2x month
I have 3 plants now and one has flowered, incredibly showy but only lasts ONE day ( April 27-2012). With the flower I am now able to identify the plant.
- Two flowers simultaneous (July 8, 2012).
