Greenhouse or Indoor  Plant.

Frost tolerance: 40 F degrees, will not survive our winter outdoors.

I got my first greenhouse fall 2007. I can now explore a world of plants I knew nothing about in-spite of growing up in Mexico where lots of succulents and cacti grow. My specimens start tiny.

Every time a add a cacti/succulent to my little collection it comes without a name. part of the fun is learning to identify them, never quite sure I’m getting it right.

PLANT TYPE: Rounded shrub, succulent

GROWTH RATE: Moderate

TEXTURE: harsh

LIGHT: Full sun-winter. Part shade-summer
WATER: sparingly in growing season, dry in winter.

SOIL: 3:1 potting soil/sand
As observed in Coastal NC.

BLOOMS: In spring, small pale yellow

FRUIT AND SEED: propagate by removing young clumps. Pot in recommended soil.

KEY FEATURES: Clump forming succulent with 9 to 12 angled, fleshy, partly subterranean, pale green branches armed with thick thorns. Rudimentary leaves soon fall.
