Acer saccharum subsp.barbarum

    Maple - Southern Sugar

                                            ID# 64

Additional Information: Landing Nursery. Grantsboro, NC

Nursery owner: Herb, found and deliver the large trees for $90.00 each

Maples in general do not care for the high heat of summer in these southern parts, however this one should be able to tolerate it so I read.

So far so good, all 4 trees came as large specimens on 25 gallon pots and about 10 ft. high. The trees were provided by Landing Nursery in Pamlico,Co. where the owner search for the large trees but also deliver them at a reasonable cost. All have done well, one perhaps a little challenge by our strong winds.

A year cycle in the life of ...... at Mooring Hitch
Trees on the East Yard were planted first. A partly shaded area, one of the two trees there shows leaves dry on the edges on/ off during summer time, I’m not sure whether the strong winds (closest to the water) or the soil causes this, out of the 4 trees this one seems challenge.
Trees on the West Yard (very sunny and on raise beds) have done better and exhibit more growth than the first two planted on the East side.
Out of the 4 trees only one so far shows a bright orange color at fall, all other remain green until leaf fall.
Osmocote applied during springs. Starting Spring 2010, I will switch to Fish/seaweed feedings. No other care needed.
August 2011, hurricane flood kill one tree in EY closest to water. Remaining doing well.
