Thujopsis dolobrata ‘Hondai’

Known as the Hiba arborvitae, is a dense, slow growing, pyramidal evergreen conifer native to Japan.


Hondai, is a variety more densely branched with slightly smaller leaves and less thicknened cone scales.


Tree was gifted to me by Greener Vision Nursery to test resistant to deer damage in my property which is densely visited by deer.

FRUIT  AND  SEED: cones

KEY FEATURES:Foliage and shape, smaller variety for  limited yard space. Deer resistant??, to be answer after a couple of years.
A year cycle in the life of ...... at Mooring Hitch

Plant is about 2 ft x 2 ft. at planting in not fenced backyard bordering open wooded area.
After few weeks and daily deer strolling around the tree, it has not been touched. However, it will require a longer test to see if resistant to deer endures.
