Additional Information: Purchased at: An Eastridge Garden, MD. www.eastridgegarden.com

During a visit to Maryland my friend Ginny took me to a very nice nursery set on the owner’s home with a large selection of needled evergreens. I selected 3 specimens one of  them: Japanese Cedar “Gyokuryu” I knew nothing about it. The plant has done very well here.

HEIGHT X SPREAD: 8-10 ft x 5-6 ft

PLANT TYPE: Evergreen, conifer

GROWTH RATE: moderate/fast

TEXTURE: medium/coarse

LIGHT: Full sun
WATER: Once established, needs only occasional watering.

SOIL: high Organic
As observed in Coastal NC.

BLOOMS: No flowers

FRUIT AND SEED: seed cones are brown, globe shape with a green branch like sticking out at the tip when they become fertile and germinate.

KEY FEATURES: This dense, broadly pyramidal growing cryptomeria has short, exceptionally stiff needles that tend to be a much darker green than most cryptomerias. Holds its color quite well through the winter.
A year cycle in the life of ...... at Mooring Hitch

About 2 ft x 2 ft when planted in Fall 2005, 4 yrs. later stands strong with a broad shape about 5 ft x 5 ft. Slightly bronze in winter it displays nice medium size cones with a interesting branch like tail in the center.
Planted in full sun and one of the highest spots in the West yard it has adapted well and does not seem to suffer during the hot summers.

Emerging time, Fertilization, Pruning, Thinning, Seed Collecting, Cutting, Roots, Division,.......
Just fertilize once during growing season, no other care is needed. I did not expected it to grow as fast/large, I hope it does not ran out of room to spread.
