Biscuits - Baking Powder

Ingredients

2  cups flour

  1/2  teaspoon salt

4  teaspoons  baking powder

  1/2  teaspoon cream of tartar

1  tablespoon  sugar

  1/2  cup  vegetable shortening

  2/3  cup  milk

  sugar, salt & pepper, to sprinkle only

Preheat oven at 425F  degrees.

 

1. Mix: flour, salt, baking powder, cream of tartar and sugar.

2. Cut shortening into flour mix until it resembles corn meal.

3. Add milk all at once stirring with a fork until it makes a ball around the fork.

4. Knead 14 times .

5. Using a rolling pin, roll to about 1/2" thick, then fold twice. Gently roll to about 1/2" thick and cut into 2 1/2" rounds. Repeat rolling and cutting with remaining cut outs.

6. Brush with butter and sprinkle with sugar, salt and pepper.

7. Bake  in ungreased sheet for 15 to 20 minutes.

 

Serve at once.

NOTES : Do not over mix dough or biscuits will be tough.
